About Canned Food
"Canned food? Nutritious? You bet!" In most instances, canned food is equally or even more nutritious than its fresh or frozen counterparts or so says a study conducted by the University of Illinois Department of Food and Human Nutrition. The study also states, "Canned fruits and veggies provide as much dietary fiber as their fresh or frozen counterparts, and are a convenient weapon in helping to combat the risk of disease and some types of cancer."
Imagine that! And you thought you had to feel guilty whenever you used canned food. Don’t worry about taste either. A three-part study on nutrition conducted by the University of Massachusetts in 2000 not only found recipes using canned ingredients were similar in nutritional value to those made with fresh or frozen items, they also found that 10 of the 13 recipes with canned ingredients (and/or a canned prepared version) were equally acceptable in taste, appearance, flavor, aroma and texture to those prepared with fresh and/or frozen ingredients.
With more than 1,500 food items packaged in with traditional canned favorites such as tomatoes and peaches canned foods are great for everyday use. Canned foods offer year-round convenience and can easily be used in favorite or new-to-you dishes for a flavorful meal any time of day.
Make it easy to eat what you buy and buy what you eat by utilizing a Pharaoh’s Storehouse system where all cans are automatically stacked and rotated in a minimum amount of space and every can is visible for inventory at-a-glance. Stock a few extra cans of the items you use and your everyday food doubles as emergency preparedness food storage because canned foods don’t require refrigeration, preparation or cooking.
Want to know how long canned food remains edible and retains its nutritional content after purchase? Or how to read a can code? Or should cans "hiss" when they’re opened?
